Asheron's Call Headlines

Hea Toneawa quest temporarily disabled on all worlds

Ibn posted this on the AC forums:

Today we became aware of a potential exploit involving the Hea Toneawa quest on Marae Lassel.

We have temporarily disabled this quest pending a long-term fix. As this is not a new quest, it is possible that the quest may not be active again until the September event.

I'll post more information on this topic on Monday after we've had a chance to discuss options with the whole team, including QA and NetOps.

Please keep in mind that posting the details of an exploit on the official AC forums is a bannable offense.

Another gift from Turbine...double weekend!

Once again, Turbine is running Bonus-Weekend! Throne of Destiny subscribers will get double experience points (just like before).

Not only that, Turbine will be tuning the loot system up. The odds of finding a minor or major cantrip increases! You can 'increase your chances' via from chests or a creature's loot. This bonus is for EVERYONE

This area is reserved for anything that has to do with the HG community such as marriages (IG and IRL), monarchies, hunting or anything you can think of.

  • Platinum Scarab = 6 per point
  • Sturdy Steel Key = .25 point
  • Marble Key = .25-.5 point
  • Granite Key = 2 points
  • Black Marrow Key = 2 points

  • I'm hoping to get more "economist" people to write how they think the economy is in Harvestgain.

    PK/PKL Scene

Since Decal is down, there is really no way of determining the ranks of PK/PKL in AC. Without Decal, PK Hunter cannot function. Stay tuned to PK Hunter's website for updated details on PK Hunter and Decal's new "Decal Development Forums" for more information on updated status on Decal.

Updates from the Decal Team (temporary topic)

Note: This section to the Harvestgain Herald is temporary and may or may not be here in the next column. This is just a place that we hope to find useful incase you want to find information on Decal.

    Decal Updates:

    Posted by MT_Gouru at 7/25 5:25pm

    Current Decal status: http://viatrak.xmlempire.com/ScreenShot00017.jpg

What this is: Proof of Concept of drawing with transparency on a quad, hardware accelerated with good performance. Also a Decal bar. This is slightly better than the 1 fps performance we were getting with the first attempt.

What this is not. Working live code in current rendering path, it is basically currently 'tacked on' to the end of rendering, with the 'real' rendering not being displayed. It also does not show current memloc status. We now have to make 'regular' rendering work with this display technology.

    ETA: When we're done...

Want to comment? Do it here: http://vnboards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=89757168&start=89761004 Please ignore the earlier war going on there

    Daily Update...

Currently, Windows9X/ME will not officially be supported in Decal. This does not mean we will intentionally break it. What it does mean is that we are not going to go our of our way to try to make it work. IF it works for you, great. If not, then we're sorry.. consider upgrading your OS.

As for the memlocs, we are planning on killing off QueryMemloc. We will try to provide functions in the ACHooks that don't already exist in place of the memlocs people need access to. Please post a list of the memlocs you require on http://vnboards.ign.com/AC_Utilities/b5432/89815122/ (if you haven't already).

Currently, AttemptPlaceIn3D already exists in the form of MoveItemEx, GiveItem, and DropItem in ACHooks. So please replace any calls to QueryMemloc for "AttemptPlaceIn3D" with one of those functions as appropriate. Any memlocs that begin with "Mouse" will not be replaced currently. Those are Win9X/ME specific memlocs and might not even exist. We are not attempting to find them right now.

We're still working on getting memlocs all done, and getting rendering working. These things are happening concurrently by different members of the Decal Dev team. We're also working on making sure there were not a lot of changes to the AC Protocol so that we can update the Messages.xml with the appropriate data.

We still do not have an eta, so the eta will remain as it previously was (or is). When we have an ETA, we will post it.

    Sometimes Daily Update...

    =========================

There is no update for today. Things are still moving (somewhat slowly) but they are moving. Not much else to be said right now. ETA is still the same as it was before (so don't ask). Hopefully more can be accomplished over the weekend and next week (although the weekend not by me because I'm moving tomorrow).

    have a great weekend everyone!

Posted by Hazridi at 8/3 10:39am

Things will start moving much faster now, I think.

Posted by Hazridi at 8/6 5:23am

Binary compatibility is *gone*. No plugins will work without recompiling.

If you used IPluginSite for any kind of hooks, they're gone. I ripped them out because 1) they don't belong there and 2) they don't belong there and 3) we are trying to make that area of code less mired in junk code.

Coincidentally, if you used IPluginSink, that will no longer function. If you want notication of command parser input and chat window text messages being added, you must change to using ACHooks events. (Private WithEvents Hooks as Decal.ACHooks I think is the VB version, C++ devs must use connection points.)

In ACHooks: GetFellowStats is gone all the Comm Event interface methods are gone UseFociItem is gone SetDay is gone

I don't remember if anything else is gone too. None of these are needed anymore, though. The always daylight option is saved now, and the other stuff can all be done with different ACHooks interfaces.

Posted by Hazridi at 8/8 8:04am

Blah, blah, more stuff is done, blah blah.

IPluginSink is gone, yes, but no functionality has been removed, just changed to different places. Well, plugins can no longer send urgent abuse requests, but that's not really a "problem."

I've lost track of what's changed on the interface. You'll have to just try to recompile your plugin and find whichever function looks like it has the right name.

ChatOut is now ChatAddText and ChatAddTextRaw

We're also working on improvements in several areas, since there is only so many people who can work on some areas at a time..

One of the first improvements is that there will be official Primary Interop Assemblies (PIAs) for use by managed code plugins.

Speaking of managed code plugins.. parad0x and I are working on some changes that will change the way you write plugins in managed code forever....

    Yes...

We're writing an add-on framework for plugins written in C#/VB.NET/Any other managed language.

I'll be posting more later with details on how this is shaping up.

    Posted by MT_Gouru at 8/13 2:37pm

Things have progressed to the point where I can start working on the areas I know. WorldFilter is currently loading into game, and even storing some data. It is recognizing objects and storing them, and doing it without crashing.

I am working on getting basic functionality working first, then will be creating new VB-Friendly interfaces for people that used ImpFilter. Also expanding it's current functionality.

I could use information from Plugin authors on what Impfilter functionality they use that is not currently provided by WF so that I can get it in.

And, I'm going on vacation, so you have one week to get me that information happy :)

Posted by Mekle at 8/13 6:53pm

Ok. For those of you who have been waiting for it..

The network protocol homepage at http://decal.insanity-inc.org/Protocol has been updated with all of kgober's recent findings.

We'll be updating the page periodically, as we find more, but there's enough there so that any plugins who directly parse the protocol can start on updates.

Posted by Hazridi at 8/16 10:26pm

Decal will not work in 16bit mode, even though AC still will.

There are no plans to change this.

Posted by Mekle at 8/22 9:51pm

After some discussion, it's been decided that We (The decal devs) want to move official communication about the status of Decal back onto our forums, at http://forums.acdev.org

We've created a new forum there specifically about Throne of Destiny related questions, and in the very near future (read: probably tomorrow) I will be posting a much more in-depth 'State of the project' update both there and here.

We'd like to thank the moderators of this forum for everything they've done to help us along, and for the stickies to keep you all informed in.

We've got one more major update here, probably posted by me, and then all new major updates will be on our forums.

    -Mekle, for the Decal Developers

Posted by Mekle at 8/23 8:20pm

Well, it seems that "The Voice of Decal" has spoken, over on the official Decal boards.

You can find the first official press-release of the Decal Development team over at:

    http://forums.acdev.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3179

Once again, we'd like to thank VNBoards and the moderators for all their help.

    -Mekle

All of this can be found on VN's Decal Information Thread. The developers of Decal have moved their updates to their forums and they also have released a press release
